Solo Single Valentine’s Day Ideas
It’s nearly Valentine’s Day and it will be my fourth (I think) Valentine’s Day as a single, solo parent. I am very excited because it means I get to bake heart cookies with my daughter and watch romantic movies. I thought it would be nice to share all the ideas I have for a solo Valentine’s, so if you’re alone or with your kids but no partner this Valentine’s Day, you can focus on loving yourself and sharing the love with your children.
How to Celebrate Solo Valentine’s
Valentine’s Day isn’t all about romantic love. We need to move away from rigid concepts like this, and celebrate the love for ourselves, platonic love, maternal love and so on. We’re living in a time of deep sadness and terror, so if you are able to take some time out this Valentine’s, I suggest you do it for yourself first. This act of self-love is healing, soothing and also fun!
Step Away From Your Phone…
First step, leave your phone off. There’s no need to doom scroll on Valentine’s Day. It’s absolutely pointless, disheartening and can leave you feeling all sort of…. uhm… feelings. So switch it off and focus on you!
Food & Drink
Heart shaped food, preferably red or pink, all the way here. You could make pink cookies, heart shaped cookies, brownies with heart sprinkles, whatever you desire. If you want a break from cooking you could order in a tasty meal deal so you’ll have less to do. Basically, do what suits you and choose food you love.
When it comes to drinks, would you like some sparkle? A cup of tea? Hot chocolate? All three?!
Pamper
A good pamper session can make you feel so good about yourself. This could simply be a bath and book combo, some sort of self-care ritual, or book yourself in for a massage. You could soak your feet, put on a face mask, paint your nails, whatever makes you happy. There are no rules!
Atmosphere
Think candles, lighting, throws, cushions – all the things that will elevate the mood of Valentine’s day and night. Create a safe space, in your bedroom, or wherever you prefer and delve right into the warmth and comfort of what you’ve created.
Love Boxes
These are boxes I put together for myself and my kids. A small box or bag, tissue paper and some cute gifts. I find things like chocolate, a little specific gift such a fidget toy or trinket, a teddy or something else cuddly. For myself I went for pens and a notebook. Basically anything red/pink and full of hearts you think someone or yourself would like. You can thrift these things or make them or buy them – no judgement!
Crafting
Crafting really hones in on self-care. Find something you will enjoy – crochet, painting, creative writing, paper crafts. Anything that will ground you in the moment and give you comfort and joy.
Baking
Baking something sweet (or savoury) can be a great way to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Get creative in the kitchen and whip up something tasty!
Candlelit Dinner
Whether you’re alone or with your children, you can enjoy dinner by candlelight. Even if you’re having a bowl of soup or a packet of biscuits (who am I to judge?!) make sure you put a candle on to honour the love for yourself.
Romantic Reading
I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely taking some time in the day to read something sweet and romantic. I will either start a new book or read some romantic poetry, who knows?! Either way, I will most likely try to find an ode to a dog haha!
Movie Night & Snacks
Grab the popcorn and get your favourite movie on. It could be a romance, but it could be a horror, you do you!
Below is a poster I made for our Valentine’s Day celebrations, feel free to download and print it off. I hope you have the most amazing Valentine’s Day, whatever you do!
